Extensions

Creating the space you need

We specialise in extensions for Cotswold stone and heritage properties, so that your home works for modern family life, whilst preserving the character you fell in love with.

Getting your heritage extension right

Extending listed or heritage properties needs a different sort of approach to modern buildings. Most people purchase a historic property because they fall in love with the character and its history.

Poor planning, or a contractor without the right experience and using the wrong materials, can result in an extension that undermines the very character that makes your home special.

Getting a heritage extension right means:

  • Extensions that are sympathetic to the original building
  • Appropriate matching of stone and use of traditional materials
  • Proper planning to avoid costly mistakes
  • Bespoke joinery and finishing so that every detail is just right

The character of your home is worth protecting. That’s why we’ve spent years getting to know and understand these buildings from the inside out.

Extensions we build

Every project is managed directly by us – you can expect the same high standards of communication, systems and workmanship throughout. Our SharePoint portal gives you full visibility of your project at every stage, and our approach is always to deliver modern comfort without compromising the character of your home.

Single storey extensions

For families needing more space - whether that's a larger kitchen, a boot room, a home office, or extra living space. We build single storey extensions that feel like a natural part of the original home, not a bolt-on.

Double storey extensions

For those who need more substantial space, a double storey extension creates additional living space on the ground floor and bedrooms or bathrooms above. A bigger project, managed with the same attention to detail throughout.

Conversion Projects

A well-executed conversion can add significant living space without the disruption of a full extension. Garages, lofts, and outbuildings - make the most of what you already have.

Ensuring the success of your heritage extension

We specialise in these buildings and understand how to get the best out of them – but we also know that the practical side of running a project well is important. We understand how frustrating it is when you don’t know where your project is at or you’re tied into early decisions or the finish just isn’t what you had expected. That’s why we ensure none of this will ever be your experience with us.

Heritage building knowledge

We understand how Cotswold stone and heritage properties behave, what materials are appropriate, and how to make an extension look like it was always meant to be there.

Project management to stay on track

Our SharePoint portal gives you full visibility of your project at every stage - schedules, drawings, and communications all in one place. No surprises, no chasing for updates.

Flexibility as your space takes shape

We don't shackle you to early decisions. As the extension takes shape, we discuss refinements so that finishing details are considered whilst there's still time to adjust.

Bespoke carpentry that ties it all together

Extensions in period properties need joinery that bridges old and new. Our on-site carpentry team crafts pieces to fit your building's actual shape so that every detail feels like it belongs.

Our customers say

"TCC have been a pleasure to work with. They have listened to what we wanted and been sympathetic to the original character of the house. We are very happy with the way they managed their craftsmen and the finished product is exactly what we were looking for."

FAQs

Do I need listed building consent for an extension?
If your property is listed any extension will require listed building consent in addition to standard planning permission. The process involves working with your local conservation officer, and the requirements can vary depending on the nature of the work and the listing grade of your property. We’re experienced in navigating this process and can help you understand what’s needed from the outset
There are, and for some projects a large volume contractor might be the right fit. Where we excel though is as a specialist team that takes on a carefully managed number of projects at any one time. This means your project gets proper attention from people who know exactly what they’re doing with heritage buildings. Our systems and processes match those of much larger contractors – but we’re small enough to give you a very personal experience which is the major reason we haven’t looked to expand beyond what we are.
In many cases, no. Extensions are generally built from the outside in, which means disruption to your daily life is limited until the point where we break through into the existing structure. We plan this carefully and communicate well in advance.

Yes. All our work comes with relevant certifications and warranties on completion — including building control sign-off, materials warranties, and any specialist certifications for electrical or heating work. We also operate a stage payment schedule, which means you only pay for work once it has been completed. You’ll never be asked for money upfront for work that hasn’t happened yet.

In addition we have a set of service level agreements that we are rigorously committed to.

You will still need an architect for an extension project, but we are very happy to work alongside your appointed architect, or can recommend several who we’ve worked with on previous projects. What we bring is the build expertise – making sure what’s designed can actually be delivered to the standard your property deserves.
