Renovations & Restorations

Bringing the comfort of modern living into your heritage home

We specialise in renovations for listed buildings and heritage properties, so that you get all the comforts of modern life without losing the character that makes your home so special.

Getting your heritage renovation right

Renovating a listed or heritage property isn’t like a standard building project. Getting the approach wrong risks damaging the fabric of the building or falling foul of conservation rules. Understanding these buildings is what ensures any additions look right and original features are protected.

Common risks we help our clients avoid are:

  • Materials that aren’t appropriate for older buildings
  • Work carried out without the correct listed building consent
  • Modern systems installed without understanding how heritage structures behave
  • Original features damaged or lost in the process

The character of your home is worth protecting. That’s why we’ve spent years getting to know and understand these buildings from the inside out.

Why clients trust us with their heritage homes

We know it can feel daunting to entrust something as important as your home to a contractor. Heritage homes aren’t just buildings – they’re living pieces of history that deserve to be understood and sympathetically restored. That’s why we’ve spent years developing the expertise to get these transformations right.

Our customers say

"We hired Taylors’ Cotswold Construction for a full refurbishment of a neglected period property, and they were excellent from start to finish. Zach Taylor communicated clearly, helped us shape a realistic scope within budget, and handled every issue quickly and professionally. Weekly site meetings kept us fully informed, and the team were consistently respectful of the house and our neighbours. The project was completed on time, and the transformation is outstanding. We’d happily use them again and highly recommend them."

FAQs

Do I need listed building consent before work begins?
It depends on the nature of the work. Any alterations to the fabric of a listed building will usually require consent, and we can help you understand what’s needed before work begins. We’re experienced in working with conservation officers and can assist with the consent process where required.
In many cases, yes. We plan disruption carefully and communicate utility interruptions well in advance. No disconnecting your boiler in January without alternative heating arrangements.
Old buildings can throw up the odd surprise once work begins. When that happens we’ll talk you through the options and the implications before anything changes. We’ve worked with these buildings for years now and the chances are we’ll have solved this problem in the past.
Yes. All our work comes with relevant certifications and warranties on completion — including building control sign-off, materials warranties, and any specialist certifications for electrical or heating work. We also operate a stage payment schedule, which means you only pay for work once it has been completed. You’ll never be asked for money upfront for work that hasn’t happened yet. In addition we have a set of service level agreements that we are rigorously committed to.
Every heritage property is different, and costs vary significantly depending on the scope of work, the condition of the building, and the specification. It’s likely that once we understand the parameters we can give you an indication and of course once we have scoped the project properly we can give you a detailed, transparent quote so you know exactly what you’re paying for and why.
